[ARCHIVED] Four Square Mile Parks: Public Meetings

Cheyenne-Arapaho

Located in the urbanized northwest corner of Arapahoe County, within what is called the “Four Square Mile Neighborhood”, two County-owned parks will be master-planned to pave the way for improvements that will provide new (or improved) community recreational resources to enhance the daily lives of County residents.

This multi-faceted project involves the master planning, detailed design, and eventual construction of improvements at both parks (the existing Cheyenne-Arapaho Park and the new Long’s Pine Grove Park, a process which is intended to dovetail with the March, 2015 Four Square Mile Recreation Needs and Opportunities Assessment .

“This is a critical first step in the planning process so that the needs and desires of the community can be considered and incorporated into the final plan,” said Commissioner Nancy Jackson, District 4. “I’m excited for new features and amenities in this diverse community and look forward to seeing the master plan develop over the next year, with construction of the parks beginning in late 2018.”

Public involvement for the park master plans is in progress. While these two park planning efforts will have separate public engagement and planning processes, the initial public meetings for each park were combined into a single meeting to accommodate community residents interested in participating in the planning processes for both parks.  This meeting took place on Wednesday August 16th, at Cheyenne Arapaho Park, and was very successful, with over sixty people in attendance.  Informational presentation boards featured site analyses of the two parks, along with lists and images of potential improvements for each.  Attendees were encouraged to share their thoughts, visions, and concerns for the parks, and to weigh in on what improvements they thought should be included in each respective master plan.  The County received very favorable initial feedback about the meeting, which was characterized by extensive interaction between the public and the Arapahoe County Parks and Open Spaces project team regarding project issues, and the future of these two important public open space resources.

NEXT STEP is a second round of public meetings for each property:

Long's Pine Grove Wednesday, Oct. 11. Eloise May Library 6-8 p.m.

Cheyenne-Arapaho Park Thursday, Oct 12. Potters House Denver 6-8 p.m.
