Deputy Dale Davis has been found at-fault in the crash that injured him and a Colorado State Patrol trooper just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Both law enforcement officers had been responding to an Adams County deputy’s call for assistance when the crash occurred near the intersection of E. 48th Avenue and Manilla Road, south east of Front Range Airport in the city of Aurora.
“We know that the community and our colleagues rely on us to get to calls for service quickly, but more importantly, safely. That didn’t happen in this case and that is our responsibility,” said Sheriff David Walcher. “We are grateful for the quick actions of rescuers and the exceptional medical care provided to Trooper Alvarado and Deputy Davis, and that both are continuing their recovery. We also appreciate the professionalism of the Aurora Police Department and the thoroughness of their investigation. We will work hard to ensure that this never happens again.”
Deputy Davis has been with the agency since March 2011. He has been on leave since the crash, as he continues to recover from his injuries. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office conducts an internal review of all on-duty traffic crashes. Given the nature of this crash, an Internal Affairs investigation would have been opened regardless of the charges. This investigation is conducted independent from any court case.
