[ARCHIVED] Arrest Warrant Issued for Homicide Related to Strasburg Death Investigation

Andrew Ausmus

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant for a man suspected in the death of a woman whose body was found Saturday morning when authorities were called to a fire at a Strasburg home.

The warrant has been issued for 58-year-old Andrew Ausmus for the charge of Murder in the First Degree. Ausmus is at-large. The victim has not been positively identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Andrew Ausmus is described as a white male, about 5’11” tall and 230 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is considered dangerous. If seen, please contact law enforcement and do not approach him.

Strasburg and Bennett fire departments, along with Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Deputies, responded to 4185 S. County Road 157 at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 after a passerby called 911 reporting active flames and a lot of smoke at a residence.

While battling the fire, fire fighters discovered someone on the ground in the garage and dragged them out of the home to safety. Fire fighters then observed that the person was already deceased.

Investigators remained at the scene much of that day investigating both the fire and the death. They continued following valuable leads throughout the weekend and were able to obtain the arrest warrant just after 1 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015.
