On February 12, 2015, at about 2:44 a.m., Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies responded to the 7300 block of South Wellington Street, City of Centennial, on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, ACSO deputies contacted the male and female homeowners who advised at about 2:30 a.m., they awoke to their doorbell ringing. They recognized the person as a former female acquaintance of their adult son. A short time later, a male, unknown to the homeowners, attempted to force his way into the home. The homeowners were able to deny the male suspect entry into the residence. The suspect then fled to his vehicle (a silver BMW sedan), leaving the female behind, and was chased by the male homeowner. During the incident, the male homeowner fired one shot at the suspect. The bullet missed the suspect and lodged in a nearby unoccupied vehicle.
A metro area bulletin regarding the vehicle was disseminated to local law enforcement agencies. A short time later, the Parker Police Department advised deputies they had the suspected BMW stopped in their jurisdiction. ACSO deputies responded and established the vehicle and sole male occupant were involved in the incident. The male occupant has been identified as:
Derek Ash
Age: 24
Mr. Ash was booked into the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility and is being charged with:
C.R.S. 18-4-203: Second Degree Burglary
C.R.S. 42-4-1413: Vehicle Eluding
The investigation is ongoing; therefore, the identity of the female and the homeowners will not be released at this time.
