In observance of Arapahoe Day, County administrative buildings will be closed on Monday, Oct. 3. (Arapahoe County recognizes Arapahoe Day, the date of which corresponds to the State's observance of Mother Cabrini Day.)
Northern Arapaho elder Gail Ridgley told us this summer that he cried seeing his Tribe’s flag flying alongside the County’s at special ceremony this Spring. “We came home that day. I was so proud. We came home.”
This has been an historic year with the Tribe—the culmination of years of work to codify and strengthen our relationship with our namesake, the Northern Arapaho.
- In June we made it official with the formal signing of a memorandum of agreement.
- In August we convoyed to Wind River, Wyoming to meet with the Northern Arapaho Business Council, the Tribal version of the Boad of County Commissioners.
- We affirmed with the Tribe that the County logo is a respectful representation of the Tribe and appropriately honors their people. We were proud to have an honest and thoughtful discussion on this topic.
- This October, we’ll support the Tribe’s annual Sand Creek Healing Run.
We are humbled to begin this journey. Thank you for making space in your day to honor the Arapaho people.
