The High Line Canal Trail near Parker Road and E. Mississippi Ave. will be closed while crews install the permanent pedestrian railing along the trail on the south side of Parker Road. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. August 15 and run through 7 p.m. August 19.

HLC trail detour at Parker MissInstallation of the permanent railing marks completion of the High Line Canal Trail Underpass at Mississippi/Parker Project. The trail connection project is an example of your Open Space Sales and Use Tax dollars hard at work, making us all safer and improving the experience of High Line Canal Trail users.

The City and County of Denver and Arapahoe County leveraged additional funds from the Transportation Improvement Program to make this multimillion-dollar project a reality.

Project Background

The project originated from an underpass feasibility study conducted in 2014 by the High Line Canal Working Group. Of the nine road crossings studied, Parker/Mississippi and Hampden/Colorado were two high-speed, heavy-traffic intersections that presented the most significant barriers to High Line Canal Trail users and limited connectivity along the 71-mile trail corridor.

The Hampden/Colorado underpass opened last summer with great support from the community. The Parker/Mississippi underpass opened in Feb. 2022 with a temporary pedestrian railing installed, enabling the trail to open earlier this year while we waited for the permanent railing to arrive.

Note: All work is weather dependent and subject to change. The public’s patience and cooperation during construction are greatly appreciated. For more information and project updates, please visit https://bit.ly/parkerandmissunderpass.
