Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our society. We all play a role in preventing this from happening, and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone.
Each April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize and reinforce the importance of families and communities working together to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect, which can have long-term psychological, emotional and physical effects that have lasting consequences for its victims.
Arapahoe County strives to build successful prevention efforts by creating and expanding partnerships between child protection professionals, education, health, community- and faith-based organizations, businesses, law enforcement agencies and families.
Our social workers in Arapahoe County Human Services are dedicated, compassionate and resilient in their efforts to protect children and help families succeed. In observance of this special month, County buildings in Littleton (Admin) and Aurora (CentrePoint Plaza) are featuring pinwheel gardens. Anyone is welcome to visit—the gardens will be near the buildings’ main entrances—and take a photo to promote on their social pages. Please tag any posts with #childabuseawarenessmonth or #thrivingfamilies.
We also encourage everyone to follow Arapahoe County’s Facebook and Twitter pages as we share messages about this issue all month, or find other ways to get involved.
