The amount of people experiencing homelessness throughout Arapahoe County more than doubled in just one year. Due to the pandemic, only those experiencing sheltered homelessness were counted in 2021, so the true numbers are even greater than the available data. What does this tell us? Many of our neighbors are living on the brink, just one lost paycheck or emergency expense away from a crisis. This is why addressing homelessness is important to the quality of life in our communities. Arapahoe County hosted a March 3 event to do just that. With representation from 40+ agencies and municipalities, attendees worked to enhance partnerships and identify shared goals. This is just the beginning. Over the next year, the committee will develop a strategic plan to move the needle and find solutions to support our most vulnerable neighbors.
