A new Utility Clearance Policy and Procedure will help Arapahoe County recoup costs associated with the relocation of sanitary (sewer) and water lines by sharing up to 50 percent of the costs with local water and sanitation districts. Over the past decade, the County has paid more than $1 million to move lines for capital construction projects.
The new policy was approved by the Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 12, 2021 and replaces an older 1989 rule which called for the County to absorb all relocation costs. The new policy will be reviewed by the Board in October 2022 to determine whether to continue the practice or join neighboring jurisdictions which require utility companies to entirely fund relocation costs.
