Changes coming to Arapahoe County property tax statements

County to save money and resources by sending postcards to certain taxpayers

Arapahoe County property owners whose property taxes were paid through an escrow account in 2020 will not receive a full tax statement this year.  A significant portion of residential property taxes are paid by property owners who make payments into an escrow account, usually to their mortgage company, which then forwards the amount of tax due to the Treasurer.

Such taxpayers will no longer receive a full tax statement in the mail. Instead, they will receive a postcard from the Arapahoe County Treasurer. The postcard will contain most of the basic information from the tax statement, including the total amount of tax on the property and a breakdown of the taxes by taxing districts.

“Sending a tax statement, complete with payment vouchers and a return envelope, to taxpayers who will not use them, is a waste of resources,” said Arapahoe County Treasurer Sue Sandstrom. “Sending a postcard instead of a statement will save paper, printing and postage costs.”

Taxpayers who are unsure who is responsible for paying their taxes—themselves or their mortgage company—are encouraged to contact their mortgage company. Those who receive a postcard but still wish to have a complete statement, can view or print their statement at the County’s website or have a statement mailed to them by calling the Treasurer’s office.

This year’s tax statements and postcards are scheduled to be mailed at the end of January.

Questions should be directed to the Treasurer’s office via the County’s website www.arapahoegov.com/Treasurer or by calling 303-795-4550.
