CDPHE updates Public Health Order to add flexibility for some entities

This week, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) amended the existing public health order with updates to the COVID-19 dial framework to add more flexibility for certain entities. Governor Polis also extended the statewide mask order, which first went into effect in July, for another 30 days.

The latest changes to the public health order took effect on Dec. 7. Among the most notable adjustments are:

  • Worship and ceremonies such as weddings and funerals have been reclassified as essential, which means that participants must “do their best” to follow public health recommendations, but they are allowed to exceed recommended capacity caps if they cannot conduct their essential activity within those restrictions. These services still must require masks indoors and deploy other prevention measures such as 6-foot spacing between members of different households and taking appropriate sanitation measures. Outdoor activities are still strongly preferred whenever possible.
  • Education-focused institutions such as museums, aquariums, or zoos may open indoors to perform educational functions, up to 25% or 25 people per room, whichever is fewer.
