A roundup of regional bike trails in Arapahoe County

We missed seeing everyone on Bike to Work Day, when Arapahoe County Open Spaces traditionally hosts a breakfast burrito pit stop during the morning commute, but it was still great to see people hitting the trails during 2020 Bike to Wherever Week (Sept. 21-25).

Arapahoe County spans 805 square miles, and thanks to an interconnected system of trails, our residents can cover a LOT of ground. Four major regional trails make it easy to ditch your car and instead hop on a bike for your trip to work, the park, or the local coffee shop.

The Mary Carter Greenway in Littleton travels along the South Platte River, connecting to downtown Denver and Chatfield State Park. We recommend checking out the natural beauty of South Platte Park and the surfing wave at River Run Park along the way.

The Cherry Creek Regional Trail runs 40 miles starting in downtown Denver and ending in Douglas County near Castlewood Canyon State Park. Take a break at Cherry Creek State Park or Arapahoe County’s historic 17 Mile House Farm Park.

The High Line Canal Trail meanders 71 miles from Waterton Canyon to northeast Denver, passing through many communities along the way. More than 350,000 people live within one mile of the trail! Now is a great time to clock in some miles AND raise funds for the High Line Canal; learn more about the County-sponsored Walk FOR the Canal (happening now through Oct. 10, 2020).

The High Plains Trail is a new regional trail along E-470. When completed, it will stretch from the Adams County line in Aurora to the Douglas County line in Parker; a 5.5-mile section from Quincy Avenue to Ireland Way is open now.

Pledge to ride your bike during the week of Sept. 21 and find a trail near you on the Explore Arapahoe County trail map

Trails like these contribute to the health and quality of life of our entire community. They are built and maintained with funding from the voter-supported Arapahoe County Open Space Sales and Use Tax. Thank you for doing your part to help us preserve and enhance our trails for generations to come. Happy biking!
