Victim Assistance volunteers will attend an Academy that begins Tuesday August 6th. Classes are held every Tuesday from 6p-9p and every Saturday from 8a-1p. Academy is slated to end Tuesday September 3rd. We require that volunteers take two to three shifts per month. They will choose the shifts that best suit them. Weekday shifts are Monday-Thursday 5:30p – 6:00a, Friday 5:30p – 7:00a, and Saturdays and Sundays can be a 24 hour shift or can be split into a twelve hour shift. New volunteers will shadow current volunteers and then will be shadowed by staff for some of their initial calls. We also require that volunteers attend the monthly Victim Assistance Program meeting, where they will be provided with training. The academy will teach volunteers all of the skills they need to respond on-scene and work with victims of crime or others who have experienced a traumatic event.
