Service-Connected Disability Compensation

The Arapahoe County Veterans Service Office can assist Arapahoe County veterans with filing for Service-Connected Disability Compensation. There is no fee for this service.

Chronic Condition

Service-connected disability compensation claims may be filed for current, chronic medical conditions caused by injuries or illnesses incurred in service or for pre-existing conditions aggravated by service.

Filing Under Presumption

A veteran may also file a claim for service-connected disability under ‘presumption.’ This means the VA presumes specific disabilities diagnosed in certain veterans were caused by the circumstances of military service. There are currently five major categories of veterans under presumption:
  • Atomic Veterans (exposed to ionizing radiation)
  • Former Prisoners of War
  • Vietnam Veterans (exposed to Agent Orange)
  • Gulf War Veterans (undiagnosed Illness)
  • Camp Lejeune Veterans (Water contamination: August 1, 1953 through December 31, 1987)
